Keto Avocado Salsa Recipe

This avocado salsa recipe is a new one for me. I love making salsa and I love eating salsa. I’m not a huge fan of avocados but most of my family likes them very much, and it seems that they are pretty popular on low carb diets because they have good fat content and you can add them to so many things.

So we went into the kitchen and started experimenting with some ripe avocados and a few other ingredients that we felt were staples in the equation.

We shared the Low Carb Salsa, together with our Low Carb Tortilla Chips, with some of our friends to get their opinions. The Low Carb Salsa and the Low carb Tortilla chips were a hit. So now this new recipe is ready to share with you! Make enough so that you can have some leftovers for the next day!

What Ingredients are in Low Carb Avocado Salsa?

Low Carb Avocado Salsa Recipe ingredients

Avocado – This is the main ingredient, obviously! Avocados have become so popular in many diets. They are rich in a lot of vitamins and minerals and high in protein, even though they are high in calories too. It’s because of the fat in them but it’s a healthy fat, just like olive oil, that fits into a Keto and low carb meal plan.

Cilantro – This green leafy wonder veggie. It’s a staple ingredient in most Mexican and Spanish foods, but especially in salsa. I love Cilantro, to me, it’s what really makes the food stand out as being delicious!

Lime – If you have ever been to Mexico You would see that lime is the number one staple in their food and drinks, everything has lime in it. I think it’s a very refreshing taste to add to this Low Carb Avocado Salsa.

Peppers – One big ingredient in any kind of salsa is peppers. Peppers of all sorts and kinds go in salsa. In this Homemade Low Carb Avocado Salsa, there are Bell Peppers, you can feel free to choose the color or colors that you like best or ones that you happen to have in your refrigerator.

If you are anything like me I love to keep certain staples in my refrigerator at all times so that in the event that at the last minute I want to make something like this for dinner, or if friends stop by spur of the moment, I have something that I can offer and whip up quickly. And you can also pick the hot peppers of your choice, but I love using jalapenos.

Are Avocados Good for Keto Diet?

Yes, avocados are very good for a lot of diets, keto being one of them. For years, some people stayed away from avocados because of the “fat” in them. But now we have realized that the fat that’s in avocados is good fat, a healthy fat, one that’s very welcome on the keto diet.

A whole avocado has 17 grams of carbs, but only 4 NET Carbs! So for every ¼ of an avocado, it would be 1 Net carb, and they are healthy carbs.

What Else Can I Add to Avocado Salsa?

You can choose whatever you have in your refrigerator as far as onions, and peppers. They all work well. Use the color of your choice and the spiciness of your choice. Sometimes I use red onion because it adds another color to the Homemade Avocado Salsa, and if I don’t have red in the house I always have Vidalia onions.

As far as the tomatoes I usually buy Campari tomatoes, and I use cherry tomatoes sometimes too, but just like all the other veggies, you can use the ones of your choice.

You can feel free to add mango to this salsa and it’s a good combo with the sweetness added to the rest.

Another ingredient that I like to add to all of my salsa recipes is fresh garlic. It only take a little to add such a nice flavor. yummy!

Is Avocado Salsa Keto?

Yes, this Homemade Avocado Salsa is good for those of you who are on the Keto diet. These are all low carb veggies and are a very good choice for all of us to eat, regardless of what diet we are on.

Best Tips for Avocado Salsa

The first tip that I have is the most important because it involves picking out the avocados. If you’ve never bought avocados before it can be overwhelming. Mostly when you buy them they are all under-ripe, very hard. For that reason, you have to get them a few days ahead of time so that when you want to make your salsa they will be ripe.

If you need to speed up the ripening process you can place them in a paper bag and they will ripen up sooner.

If they are already ripe enough then place them into the refrigerator to last longer until you are ready to use them.

Is Avocado Salsa good for Paleo, Vegan, Gluten-Free?

Low Carb Avocado Salsa

Yes, just as this Homemade Low Carb Salsa is good for the Keto diet, it’s also good for anyone on the Paleo diet, the Vegan diet, and a gluten-free diet. You can’t go wrong with such good and healthy raw veggies.

My family always says that they feel my fresh ingredient salsa is vital to eat year-round and helps them to ward off colds and stuff. I’m not sure that it actually does but I do know that we do feel good the more raw fruits and vegetables that we eat.

What to serve with Avocado Salsa

Well, this Homemade Avocado Salsa can be eaten just like other kinds of salsa. We have 2 other recipes on our site, Low Carb Tortilla Chips, and Low Carb Crackers, both of which go well with this recipe for Salsa. There are a lot of low carb choices of crackers you can buy online too that are good choices.

Also, homemade Salsa can be added to eggs in the morning for breakfast, and it’s also a good topper for any kind of meat, like Burgers, Steak, Chicken or Pork.

How to Store Low Carb Avocado Salsa

Once you make your Avocado Salsa, put it in a plastic container with a tight-fitting lid and store it in your refrigerator.

Avocados tend to turn brown the more they are exposed to the air, so only put out as much salsa as you are going to eat at one time. So, as a result, your salsa won’t stay fresh for too many days. Therefore, eat it up while it’s still fresh.

Also if you add a little vinegar it may help preserve the leftovers.

Description

This is a delicious easy to make avocado salsa recipe that adds so many healthy veggies to your diet and enhances so many of your favorite foods. Great for a party and with low carb chips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ½ cup red onion
  • ½ cup tomatoes
  • ½ cup red, orange or yellow peppers
  • ½ cup jalapeno peppers
  • ½ bunch of cilantro
  • 2 avocados
  • Lime juice
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Chop by hand the onions, peppers, tomatoes, and cilantro.
  2. Mix together the chopped ingredients in a large bowl.
  3. Chop avocados.
  4. Then add your chopped avocados and salt. Mix together with your pepper mixture, being careful not to overmix the avocados. They can bruise easily.
  5. Then squeeze a little lime juice over the top and lightly mix

Notes

NET CARBS: 1.6 per serving

Be gentle when you mix the avocados. Do not overmix because they tend to bruise easily, especially the riper they are, so blend carefully.

I always buy a couple of extra avocados to make sure that I have enough for my salsa in case when I cut them open there might be some areas with brown spots that need to be cut out.

Also, the riper they are, the shorter their life span is once they are cut and mixed, which means that after 2-3 days the avocado may be too ripe to eat, so don’t leave this Avocado Salsa in the refrigerator too long. Eat it up. Enjoy

You can make your Low Carb Avocado Salsa as spicy as you would like by adding more jalapeno peppers to make it spicy, less to make it less spicy.
